What Sets This Book Apart
This book goes behind our initial observations and addresses our heart motives.
There Are Ungrateful Barriers You Cannot See
Through fresh biblical insight, this book traces ingratitude all the way back to Heaven’s first rebellion and reveals how the same seeds of dissatisfaction, comparison, and entitlement can secretly erect invisible barriers around our lives. Barriers that keep God’s peace, joy, and abundance from flowing freely.
Then, chapter by chapter, the teachings tear those barriers down. The result is a book that is both theologically rich and highly accessible, weaving biblical revelation with real-life application so that every chapter moves you from understanding to experience.
Biblical Revelation Based In Reality
Years ago, I directed a faith-based women’s rehabilitation center. I watched women walk through the same program with very different outcomes. Over time, I noticed a pattern that surprised me. The women who carried grateful hearts almost always succeeded. Those who stayed in resentment, entitlement, or bitterness almost always dropped out and returned to destructive lifestyles.
That observation sent me into Scripture with fresh eyes. I began to see gratitude everywhere I looked, woven into God’s design far more deeply than I had ever realized. I saw it in Lucifer’s fall. I saw it in Eden. I saw it in Israel’s wilderness wanderings. I saw it in the Gospels, where Jesus gave thanks before every recorded miracle.
This book is the fruit of that journey. Twenty chapters walk you through the specific barriers that surface-level gratitude leaves intact and show you, from Scripture and from lived experience, how biblical thanksgiving becomes the force that dismantles them.

A Glimpse of the Journey
Twenty chapters, one ancient barrier at a time. Every chapter follows the same arc: a specific barrier that ingratitude has erected, the biblical truth that exposes it, and the gratitude practice that tears it down. Each chapter closes with reflection questions, a simple gratitude practice, and a prayer that invites you to hear from Jesus Himself.
Section 1: Breaking Down Barriers
1. Where It Begins
Biblical gratitude goes far deeper than good manners. This chapter introduces the “Do Not Enter” barriers that can keep you from the abundant life God offers and begins to explore how gratitude moves you beyond them.
2. The First “Do Not Enter” Sign
What if struggles like discontent, pride, resentment, and jealousy have a deeper root than you realize? This chapter explores the connection between ingratitude and Lucifer’s rebellion and reveals how the enemy still uses dissatisfaction to turn our attention away from God’s goodness.
3. From Darkness to Divine Light
Gratitude can change what you see. Discover how thanksgiving opens the eyes of your heart, helps you recognize God’s provision and possibilities, and reveals the miraculous things He may have already placed within your reach.
4. From Carnal Thinking to Christ’s Thinking
The thoughts you allow to take root shape the way you experience your life. Discover how gratitude helps you recognize negative patterns, invite Jesus into your thought life, and begin to exchange limited human perspective for the grace, wisdom, and hope of Christ.
5. The Ingratitude of Adam and Eve
Adam and Eve had abundance all around them, yet the enemy convinced them to focus on the one thing they could not have. Their story reveals how dissatisfaction, comparison, and the fear of missing out can still cause us to overlook God’s goodness and question His provision.
6. From Scarcity to Abundant Grace
A scarcity mindset tells us there will never be enough, causing us to hold tightly and worry about what we might lose. This chapter reveals the abundance of God’s grace and explores how gratitude helps you move from fear and clenched fists to trust, open hands, and confident dependence on God.
7. From Selfishness to Kingdom Generosity
God’s abundance was never meant to stop with us. Discover how gratitude changes your relationship with your time, resources, gifts, and possessions, transforming you into someone who freely gives and allows God’s blessings to flow through you.
8. From Constant Dissatisfaction to Contentment
The demanding heart is never satisfied for long. This chapter explores how gratitude helps you recognize God’s goodness in the present moment, release unrealistic expectations, and grow from spiritual immaturity into genuine contentment and trust.
Section 2: Growing in Faith
9. From Shallow Roots to Established Faith
A faith that survives life’s storms needs deep roots. This chapter explores how gratitude establishes deeper spiritual roots and creates a reservoir of God’s faithfulness you can draw from when difficult seasons come.
10. From Wandering to Promise Fulfilled
Sometimes we can spend enormous energy without actually moving forward. Through the story of Israel’s wilderness journey, this chapter explores how unbelief, comparison, fear, and ingratitude can keep us wandering and how gratitude helps build a bridge toward God’s promises.
11. From Striving to Divine Purpose
Many of us exhaust ourselves trying to discover, accomplish, or prove our purpose. This chapter explores the freedom of understanding that our deepest purpose begins with loving God and receiving His love, allowing gratitude to move us from striving and performance into relationship and divine purpose.
12. From Regret to Redemption
Regret can keep us imprisoned by mistakes we cannot undo, while disappointment can make us afraid to hope again. This chapter explores how gratitude helps us surrender the past to God, recognize His redemptive work, and trust that He can use even painful experiences for good.
13. From Weariness to Sustaining Strength
Some seasons of life last much longer than we expected. Discover how gratitude can sustain us when we are tired of waiting, help us recognize God’s presence in the wilderness, and open our hearts to the strength and refreshing that come from Him.
Section 3: Discovering Peace
14. From Sickness to Wholeness
God’s desire is to bring wholeness to the whole person. This chapter explores the connection between gratitude, spiritual and emotional health, and God’s desire to bring greater wholeness into your life.
15. From Criticism to Life-Giving Words
Our words can either build people up or quietly tear them down. This chapter explores how gratitude changes the way we see the people around us, helping us move from criticism and frustration toward appreciation, encouragement, reconciliation, and words that give life.
16. From Chaos to Peace
Peace does not require a life without trouble. It comes from God’s presence in the middle of trouble. Discover how prayer and thanksgiving can shift your focus from the storm to the One who holds you through it and allow the peace of Christ to guide your heart.
Section 4: The Victorious Life
17. From Defeat to Spiritual Victory
Thanksgiving can become a powerful weapon in spiritual warfare. Through the biblical story of Jehoshaphat and other examples, this chapter explores how gratitude shifts your focus from the battle you face to the God who fights for you.
18. From Distance to Divine Presence
Sometimes we love God yet still feel far from Him. This chapter explores how thanksgiving, praise, and worship become doorways into God’s presence, helping you move from simply knowing about God to experiencing deeper fellowship with Him.
19. From Victim to Victor With Jesus
Jesus demonstrated gratitude even in the face of betrayal, suffering, abandonment, and death. This chapter explores His example and shows how surrender and gratitude can transform your perspective when circumstances are painful, unfair, or beyond your control.
20. From Barriers to Breakthrough
The journey comes full circle as we return to the “Do Not Enter” signs that represent the hidden barriers in our lives. Discover how deeper gratitude tears down barriers of ingratitude, fear, criticism, scarcity, regret, and weariness and opens the way toward God’s presence, provision, purpose, peace, and breakthrough.

Common Questions
What readers ask before they begin.
What is When Thank You Isn’t Enough about?
It is a book about the hidden barriers that ingratitude erects in our lives and how biblical gratitude tears them down. The book traces the roots of ingratitude back to Heaven’s first rebellion, names twenty specific barriers that keep believers from experiencing God’s peace, joy, and abundance, and shows how a deeper practice of thanksgiving dismantles each one. Every chapter includes reflection questions, a simple gratitude practice, and space to hear from Jesus personally.
Who is this book for?
It was written for believers who love God yet still feel stuck, distant, or frustrated. If you are a believer and still wonder why peace feels elusive or joy feels out of reach, this book is for you. The teaching goes deep enough to serve those who have walked with God for decades, and yet the practical exercises assume no prior training.
How is this different from a gratitude journal?
A gratitude journal is a wonderful practice, and this book even encourages keeping one. Where this book goes further is beneath the surface. When Thank You Isn’t Enough traces ingratitude to its origin, names twenty specific barriers believers encounter, and provides biblical insight and practical exercises for tearing each one down. It is an interactive and life-changing book that shows readers “how” to grow in intimacy with Jesus and helps transform their minds to the mind of Christ.
Do I need to read the chapters in order?
Reading in order helps, because the chapters build. The first section breaks down the origin and nature of the barriers. The second section grows your faith. The third section leads into peace. And the fourth section carries you into spiritual victory. That said, each chapter stands on its own, and many readers find it helpful to turn first to the chapter that names the barrier they feel most.
Is there a companion workbook?
A companion study guide and workbook is in development and will be available soon. It follows the same twenty-chapter structure and provides space for deeper personal application.
Is it available on Kindle Unlimited?
Yes. The Kindle edition is included with a Kindle Unlimited membership. The book is also available for purchase in paperback and Kindle eBook.
What if I am new to hearing God’s voice?
The book includes an Appendix called “How to Hear God’s Voice Daily,” a step-by-step guide for developing a daily conversation with God. It is written for beginners and covers how to recognize His thoughts, how to discern His voice, and how to grow in confidence as you listen.
